WEEK 1 - INNOVATION AND THE 21ST CENTURY ARCHITECT

Innovation isn’t the goal; it’s everything else that gets you there.
It’s the bad decisions and the creations that we invent that can not be used for decades after that are the important leaps forward, teaching us step by step what not to do.
Innovation has no end, for what we want and what we need is forever changing, in the words of Maggie Koerth-Baker.
Its important to not overlook the innovative ideas that are being developed around us today, just because they have not hit the market big time does not mean that they will not be something we rely on for everyday use in the future.

Innovation has always been a vital role for an architect, although for the 21st century architect we have to be on our toes more than ever, with the rate in which technology is changing our life-styles, people’s wants, needs and more importantly expectations will alter ‘architecture’ as we know it.

It is every influencing factor from the financial crisis, political leaders, technological advances to cultural influence, which have an effect on the way people choose to live their lives. It is our job to detect these patterns and act on them in a way that will serve not only the needs of today but they needs of the future.
In my opinion it’s the focus on the upcoming youth that deems important, yet proves a difficult prediction.
